Here’s my ranking of personal favourite’s. Please bear in mind that this isn’t about the objective quality of the film or its status as a classic, but merely about how much I personally enjoy watching it. Obviously some positions change each time I return to one of the films. 😉
1. The Living Daylights
2. Thunderball
3. Tomorrow Never Dies
4. The Spy Who Loved Me
5. You Only Live Twice
6. Live and Let Die
7. SPECTRE
8. From Russia with Love
9. Skyfall (constantly falling, no pun intended)
10. Casino Royale (constantly rising)
11. A View to a Kill
12. Goldfinger
13. GoldenEye (Would’ve been ranked much higher if it weren’t for the score…)
14. Moonraker
15. On Her Majesty’s Secret Service
16. Dr. No
17. Licence to Kill
18. Octopussy
19. Diamonds are Forever
20. The World is Not Enough
21. The Man with the Golden Gun
22. For Your Eyes Only
23. Die Another Day
24. Quantum of Solace
Sweet Jesus, apart from the top 10 and the bottom 3 this felt as inappropriate and uncomfortable as ranking family members. I think I need to rest now.
Hey Ralf,
Cheers for sending on your order of favourite Bond films. It is definitely one of hardest challenges out there and the positions do often change for everyone.
Your list certainly contained a few surprises which is great! Next year we’ll be doing a ranking vote to get as many JBR listeners as we can to see what the results are.
Be interesting to see if your film ranking changes between now and then!
Cheers,
JBR
Really looking forward to the ranking vote, I wonder if there are people who’d place DAD among their top 10 and how they’d justify it…
LOL. I find it hard to justify it being in the top 23! 😉
I think that’s an AWESOME list! It is probably almost COMPLETELY different from mine, which just goes to show, that Bond has appeal on so many different levels, and there is not just one “right” answer, and I love that!
I think making a list of ALL the movies would make my head explode, so well done, Ralf!
Thanks a lot for the feedback! It surprises me that my top 4 films are all with different actors playing Bond. Agreed, I think that’s a wonderful thing about Bond – everybody’s got their own favourites, based on nostalgia, entertainment and various other factors.
Exactly. My Top 4 or 5 films would have 4 different Bond actors as well, But only The Spy Who Loved Me would be a repeat from your list. But at least we agree what is the Top ‘Roger’. 🙂
Interesting! What are your Top 5 Bond films then?
I would probably go with
1) Casino Royale
2) On Her Majesty’s Secret Service (perhaps even tied for first)
3) Goldfinger
4) The Spy Who Loved Me
5) From Russia With Love (probably – from here, it gets really close between a lot of movies I think)
My rules for ranking Bond films:
1) At least 10 of them are in the top 5
2) All but DAD are in the top half
LOL … That does explain why it’s such a complex process to rank them.
nice cameo by a very Timothy Dalton-sounding reviewer!
Loved that bit… could it have been the real Timmy D? 😉
Well he didn’t give his name…will we hear a Roger Moore cameo and one from the others perhaps…?
a Rog one was done but sadly did not make the cut..also Sean and George! Maybe the lads could give us a director’s cut 😉
yes..i wonder who that was? 😉 ‘it was me all along..the author of all the bad impressions of former Bond stars’ 😉
For the past 30 days I have woken up and ate my breakfast while listening to new episodes of JBR… now that the 30 days are over I dont know what to do with myself, the daily routine will be missed. Cheers, guys and well done!
Thanks Alex, glad you enjoyed them… there’s always time to check out some of the back catalogue episodes if you haven’t already or just want a refresher! 🙂
Seconding that! It’s been bloody brilliant, boys! Well done!
It should have been 90 days of SPECTRE , at least!
Hey, you guys haven’t done one of your Bond quizes in quiet a while. Maybe now is not such a bad time.
To close things up, I’d like to share with you my illustrous participation in Spectre.
Thanks for all the effort you put this last month. It was truly appreciated.
Great pic Gerardo! 🙂
I feel really empty right now!
Many many thanks and congratulations on the 30 days, guys. (Awesome Dalton message whoever you are!)
Happy holidays to all JBRers!
it was ME. ALL ME! Cheers! I have been working on a decent George and Daniel, too..sean and rog are the easiest..tim..well..i do his voice a lot without even thinking! it’s a great voice to do when you want to sound like you have authority! 🙂
Great work, my friend! Roger and Sean impersonations are ten-a-penny, and I’ve even heard a few Brosnans when he was in the role.. Lazenby, Dalton and Craig definitely niche territory though! Surprised that Tim wasn’t dissatisfied with Daniel’s enunciation but always good to hear from him!
Can’t you guys just skip to your dad review now? Lol can’t wait for that one. Anyway in my 90 second review I mentioned how lines delivered by actors are different in the way they deliver them from the trailer to the film. Did anybody else spot this? Thanks
Yeah. The ‘I was taking some overdue holiday’ line was totally different from the trailer. The entire scene in which Moneypenny hands over Bond’s Skyfall remains is different too.
And the way Blofeld says “welcome james” is completely different. Very odd!
They shoot every scene multiple times. They probably just decided to go with a different take in the finished film to what they chose in the trailer.
They do shoot multiple takes and in some cases, the trailer will have both the ‘live’ sound and a slightly different take but in a lot of cases, the dialogue will be ADR’d for a more consistent sound level throughout the movie.
Ahhh! SPECTRE has finally hit Japan and I can finally reinstate JBR on my news feed. I loved, loved, loved this movie!
There I was in a cinema for the local premiere with about 20 Japanese folk, a big silly grin plastered on my big silly face, caramel popcorn all over my nice trousers and all that could be heard over the movie soundtrack was me giggling like a little boy at the references to Bonds of the past and Mr. Craig’s frequent quips.
I feel that this is Danny boy’s Goldfinger, the movie where he’s looking truly at home in the role and it’s good to see this Bond finally having a bit of fun. My measure of a good 007 flick is all in my swagger as I leave the theatre with the Bond theme pounding in my head and this one had me swaggering all the way home.

Tom and Chris, absolutely yeoman’s job on the 30 Days, brilliant! Take a well deserved break. Looking forward to you both “reporting for duty” after Christmas.
By the way, I’ll take credit for the Hinx hat suggestion – if they use it in 25 I expect royalties and will donate them to JBR. I wouldn’t have even thought about it without your work and inspiration!
Cheers

Recently saw Spectre again and I think by now I understand the purpose of showing the Gekko during the interrogation scene. That image is followed by that of the white cat. Without the reptile we would immeadiately realize we are looking at Blofeld’s buddy, by seeing the Gekko we are first puzzled to see the cat and it actually takes a couple of additional seconds to figure out what we are seeing which makes the realization all the more satisfying. Anyway, at least that was my reaction!
You’re likely correct – but IMO it’s more intriguing to think about whether it’s a clue to something that will become apparent in B25. Whoever started talking about the post-torture action being all in Bond’s head has got me completely wound up in mental knots- it would be way out there but in some ways very courageous to try that!

When you get back to podcasting next year and you reach the final round of Celebrity deathmatch, I think you should have a fight between the winner and the newcomer mr Hinx! He will be a tough challenge for whoever the winner is.
Thank you, your love for Bond, everything Bond is incredible, not just the movies, books, collectibles, but the fans, us is mesmerizing. Gonna miss you, happy holidays and once again THANK YOU.
